Delinking education from prosperity and mobility

In the UK, "Students actually seems to think this putative by-product of higher education, increased social mobility, is in fact its purpose..." Over here, they think its about increasing earning power. Both ideas are dubious.

"We think about universities purely in economic ways and I think that is a great pity." There was a time when colleges were for people who didn't need careers.
