An admirer of Benjamin notes that he has been rendered into kitsch by the cultural machine and that his fans are his worst enemies.

I would say that he has been made accessible to that vast middlebrow audience that over here torments us with the idiot reductionism of PBS, NPR, NYT, WaPo, etc.
